Students at the British Columbia Institute of Technology, located in Burnaby, just outside Vancouver, have the option to pursue either a certificate or a diploma in cardiology technology. Both programs are completed through a combination of online courses and clinical experience in a hospital or diagnostic laboratory. Students in both programs are required to attend a workshop course at the campus in Burnaby. While both the certificate and the diploma program teach students to perform exercise-tolerance testing and electrocardiograms (ECGs), the certificate program also covers the monitoring of arrhythmia. The certification program also involves more extensive classwork that prepares students to take the national certification exam to become a licensed cardiology technician.
