College development officers are primarily responsible for fundraising efforts, which allow a school to offer more educational programs and special events. The position is crucial to the success of building a university's endowment. Successful candidates for development officer positions usually have a background in fundraising or public relations.

    • A development officer assists with fundraising efforts and tracks alumni who may wish to contribute to their alma mater. Some development officers work the phones all day, hoping to find alumni willing to pledge small amounts of money to the school.
