Harvey Mudd College (HMC) has established a reputation as one of the preeminent colleges in America for engineering. Harvey Mudd was ranked number one among all colleges with undergraduate programs in engineering in 2010. Harvey Mudd College is a private college known for its ability to educate top students who later go on to pursue Ph.D. degrees in various fields. HMC's engineering department is divided into three areas of emphasis: design and professional practice, systems, and the applied sciences. The bachelor's degree conferred by Harvey Mudd is an unspecialized degree that trains students across a wide spectrum of studies in engineering. Many students go on to pursue graduate studies at top-rated engineering schools, but the program also produces a number of graduates who go directly into the job market.
