The Manderson School of Business at the University of Alabama surveyed CEOs of corporations to determine what prospective employers look for in their new recruits. They determined that companies are looking for individuals who possess skills in their area of expertise, as well as advanced leadership and communication skills. With this in mind they developed a curriculum that teaches these skills through education, guidance and hands-on training. Concentrations are offered in a variety of areas including business intelligence, enterprise, finance, strategy and supply chain and operation management. Students interested in the supply chain and operation management concentration are exposed to a large area of information and knowledge including customer service, warehousing, inventory control, transportation, material handling, forecasting and strategic planning. Core classes provide basic knowledge of all functional areas of business, with the belief that people who have an understanding of the basic elements of business have a better understanding of the picture as a whole. Students are admitted fall semester only, with a limit of 80 to 90 students per year. Applications and personal mission statements are accepted online. In addition, applicants must mail in a supplemental application, current resume, GMAT/GRE scores, three letters of recommendation and transcripts.
