Schools for Law in Health Care

A majority of the country's top-ranking health-care law programs are actually dual-degree academic programs. Students can simultaneously pursue a master's degree in public health while earning a juris doctor in law. Graduates of health-care law studies can go on to careers at non-profit organizations, corporations or government agencies.
  1. Saint Louis University School of Law

    • Founded in 1843, the Saint Louis University consistently is among the top-ranked health-care law programs in the country. Students matriculated into the university's law school can choose among various health-care law degree programs. SLU's law school partners with the university's School of Public Health to present the Juris Doctor/Masters of Public Health dual- degree program. With the additional availability of a specialty focus in health policy, potential candidates for either of these programs must fulfill admissions requirements of both schools. The School of Law also features master's degree study in health law. SLU's Master of Laws in Health Law allows students to tailor their own curricula and to combine coursework in law, economics, health administration and in study- related areas with externships and research opportunities.

    Case Western Reserve University

    • Located in Cleveland, Ohio, Case Western Reserve University's School of Law was established in 1892, making it one of the country's oldest law schools. Today, the school has a dual-degree program where matriculated students can concurrently pursue master's degree study in public health while obtaining a law degree. The school features an expansive curriculum of health law courses, including classes such as Healthcare and Human Rights, Current Topics in Health Law and Reproductive Rights Seminar. Case Western's School of Law also features a career services department for job placement and career skills development, as well as regular lectures from notable professionals in the legal field.

    Boston University

    • One of the largest private universities in the country, Boston University's School of Law offers law students the opportunity to combine law and public health studies with a dual-degree program. The school's Juris Doctor and Master's in Public Health program includes core courses such as epidemiology and environmental health, as well as more focused courses such as health policy and management, as well as maternal and child health. Students matriculated into this program are additionally required to complete a practicum. The school will assist students in procuring externship or field study work in order to fulfill this requirement.
