4 Year Accounting Degrees

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, there were 1.3 million accounting jobs available in 2008. These positions required at least a bachelor's degree; some required further training. A number of schools offer accounting degrees, but a few schools stand out for their four-year accounting programs.
  1. The University of Texas at Austin

    • "U.S. News and World Report" found that the University of Texas at Austin had the best undergraduate accounting program in 2009. The McCombs School of Business at UTA offers a bachelor's degree in business administration in accounting. In 2009, UTA had only 223 students in its accounting program, yet provided a large number of resources for those students. UTA utilizes hands-on learning approaches that include internships, leadership programs and chances to study abroad. McCombs School of Business has over 30 student-led organizations including the University Accounting Association.

    University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign

    • No. 2 in the "U.S. News and World Report" rankings for 2009 is the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. UIUC offers a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting and a bachelor's/master's dual degree in accounting science. Only the dual degree in accounting science provides the student with enough credits to take the CPA exam in Illinois. Other states may accept only the Bachelor of Science in accounting. Along with its excellent courses, UIUC offers student groups and activities, which include the accountancy team that won the Deloitte Foundation National Case Study Competition in 2010. UIUC offers extracurricular information, including a lyceum and symposiums every year.

    Brigham Young University

    • Brigham Young University's Bachelor of Science degree in accountancy took the No. 3 spot in the 2009 "U.S. News and World Report" rankings. BYU's Marriott School of Management is designed for business students. BYU offers students 100 percent job placement, internships and a slew of recruiters looking at their credentials. The university has a chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, the national accounting honor society. BYU has programs designed to bring additional women and minority members into the accounting field.
