Universities Offering Nursing Degrees

Since the mid-2000s, the United States has been suffering from a well-publicized nursing shortage. Nurses, in all specialties and types, from the advanced practice nurse to the registered nurse are in demand. If you are planning on pursuing a career in nursing, you can choose from many nursing programs, in varying sizes, geographic locations, and types of schools.
  1. University of Washington

    • The U.S. News and World Report has listed the University of Washington's school of nursing as the number one ranked nursing school in the United States 16 times since the report started ranking schools in 1993. Located in Seattle, Washington, the school promotes "excellence in teaching, research, and service." Students can choose from three schools of nursing -- biobehavioral nursing and health systems, family and child nursing, and psychosocial and community health. The school provides training for clinical practice nurses, advance practice nurses, nurse faculty, and nurse researchers.

    University of California - San Francisco

    • The school of nursing at the University of California -- San Francisco specializes training advanced practice nursing, nursing faculty, and leaders in health policy. The school offers students research opportunities and scholarship support. Students can choose between four departments of research and instruction within the school of nursing; family health care nursing, community health systems, social and behavioral sciences, and the institute for health and aging. Students will find that research is the primary concern of the institute for health and aging.

    • The University of Pennsylvania school of nursing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania offers students unique benefits such as a high-tech simulation lab, classrooms featuring electronic medical records technology, and clinical experiences in nearby hospitals such as the Hospital of Penn University and Philadelphia's Children's Hospital. Penn nursing school offers 18 master's programs, and doctorate level courses and degrees.
