Boston University is the only school in the country that has a separate, fully constituted Department of Archeology. Bachelor, master and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees in archaeology are offered. Students in all programs receive the opportunity for hands-on learning out in the field and in laboratories. All undergraduates must participate in a field school in order to graduate. The department runs an undergraduate archeology club in which students are encouraged to participate. Sample course offerings include origins of civilization, ancient technology, art and architecture of the ancient American, geoarcheology and prehistoric Greece.
