    University of Kansas: School of Education

    • The University of Kansas, a public university, is located in Lawrence. The school features a top-tier School of Education that earned the second best spot on U.S. News and World Report's best special education graduate program list in 2010. The Special Education department is affiliated with research centers such as the Center for Research on Learning and the Beach Center on Disability.     University of Florida: College of Education

    • Located in Gainesville is the University of Florida, a public school with an excellent Special Education Department. The department ranked fourth in the country on U.S. News and World Report's 2010 list. For students who did not complete their undergraduate work at the University of Florida, as well as inservice teachers, they can study within the traditional master's program. Students who complete their bachelor's at the university can enter the Proteach Master's program. These students can choose from the Unified Early Childhood or Unified Elementary. After completion, students are recommended for certification in special education.

    University of Oregon: College of Education

    • The University of Oregon, located in Eugene, is about two hours south of Portland. The university features the third best special education graduate program in 2010 in the country, according to the U.S. News and World Report website. Within the College of Education, the Department of Special Education and Clinical Sciences offers students master's and doctorate degrees in Communication Disorders and Sciences, Early Intervention, School Psychology and Special Education. The programs aim to increase the quality of life for children with disabilities, as well as their parents. With these degrees, students can work in clinical or educational settings.
