The ROTC program at Indiana State University was founded in 1917. This program allows students to take ROTC training as an elective course for up to two years, with no obligation to join the military. This provides students with hands-on experience and life skills that give them an edge over their peers, whether they choose to go into active duty or not. Those who do choose to sign on with the military after two years receive further specialized training, as well as a second lieutenant's commission after graduating.
