List of Music Schools in England

England has a long and distinguished musical history. It has produced magnificent church music, chorals, many kinds of folk music, classical, highly influential rock bands and, of course, famous contemporary composers like Benjamin Britten. England has a large number of old music schools, which favor traditional instruments like piano, strings and organ. It also has newer music schools, which teach guitar, drums, keyboards and bass. These lie not only in the bustling city of London, but all over the country, including Leeds, Guildford and Manchester.

University of Leeds School of Music

    • The School of Music at the University of Leeds has both undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. Undergraduate programs include general music, popular music and world music, while postgraduate programs cover composition, performance, musicology and music technology. Overall, the college stresses academics over performance; students must have already studied advanced music theory before being admitted, but after the first year, there are no more compulsory performance classes in the undergraduate programs. The school does not offer any scholarships for instrumental or choral studies, but the Leeds Parish Church and Leeds Cathedral have a variety of scholarships in conducting, organ and choral music.
