The School of Music at the University of Leeds has both undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. Undergraduate programs include general music, popular music and world music, while postgraduate programs cover composition, performance, musicology and music technology. Overall, the college stresses academics over performance; students must have already studied advanced music theory before being admitted, but after the first year, there are no more compulsory performance classes in the undergraduate programs. The school does not offer any scholarships for instrumental or choral studies, but the Leeds Parish Church and Leeds Cathedral have a variety of scholarships in conducting, organ and choral music.
