At No. 72 in the nation, the University of Cincinnati's College of Nursing ranks as the third highest rated nursing program in the state of Ohio. Cincinnati offers students a full range of degree options. At the bachelor's degree level the school offers a degree program for registered nurses who have their associate degrees already. This degree completion program allows nurses to continue nursing education to become an RN. The school also offers the more traditional B.S.N. (bachelor of science in nursing) degree program, which a four-year degree program that consists of one year of pre-nursing studies followed by three years of nursing core curriculum courses. Students must apply to the nursing program at the end of the first year of studies. The curriculum of the B.S.N. program covers courses such as nutrition for health, pathophysiology, bacteriology, nursing theory and research and genetics.

Second among the top nursing programs in the state, Ohio State University (OSU) also offers the degree completion program for registered nurses and the B.S.N. program with one year of pre-nursing studies. Following the first year of prerequisite studies, students then engage is a combination of classes, clinical experiences and simulated nursing experiences. Courses during the last two years of study include areas such as psychiatric mental health nursing, integrated sciences for nursing practice, nursing care of children and families, high acuity nursing, community care of vulnerable populations, nursing care of adults, cultural competence in health care and leadership in clinical nursing practice.

At No. 15 in the nation, Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) is the top-ranked school for nursing in the state of Ohio. CWRU offers a full range of degree options. For those pursuing the bachelor's degree, CWRU offers the degree completion program and the traditional B.S.N. program. One of the primary differences with the program at Case is that students do not take first-year pre-nursing program; instead students are directly admitted to the nursing program and take nursing courses in their freshman year of studies. This means that students can begin their clinical experience faster and actually have more hours of actual practice by the end of their educational experience. Courses taken throughout the program include areas such as medical microbiology, pharmacology, nursing informatics, nursing management and health in the global community.
