Founded in 1861, Morehouse College is a private, four-year school in Atlanta. Morehouse has evolved from an exclusively theological institute to the nation's only all-male African-American college. With an enrollment of 3,000, the college offers 26 degree programs, with an emphasis on the liberal arts. Spelman College, the sister college of Morehouse, is the nation's oldest historically black women's college. Established in 1881 as the Atlanta Baptist Seminary, Spelman awards bachelor's degrees five major areas, including the fine arts and the humanities. "U.S. News & World Report" recognized Spelman for its six-year, 78 percent graduation rate.

Established in 1881, Paine College, on 57 acres in Augusta, has an enrollment of 1,200. As a black liberal arts institute, Paine College awards bachelor's degrees in five academic divisions: business administration, the humanities, natural sciences and mathematics and the humanities.
