How to Do Endnotes

An endnote is a quoted sentence that is followed by a superscript number. When you write a paper and you want your readers to find important information within your paper, endnotes allow readers to accomplish this. They are located at the end of your paper and refer readers back to specific locations within your paper so that they can find and recap information and words quoted or mentioned within your paper.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to the position within your paper where you want to insert an "end note reference mark " in "Print Layout View." Click where you want to insert the "note reference mark." Scroll your cursor to "Insert."

    • 2

Click on "Cross-Reference" or point to Reference, and then "Cross-Reference." Click "Endnotes." Microsoft Word will automatically place endnotes at the end of the document.

    • 3

Click the format you want in the "Number format box" and then click "Insert." Microsoft Word inserts the note number and places the insertion point next to the note number. Type the text note and then scroll to your position in the document to continue typing.
