Northwestern College provides students the opportunity to earn an associate's degree in criminal justice. This program prepares individuals for work in local and county-level law enforcement. The program provides an overview of criminal justice, as well as courses on ethics, corrections, juvenile justice, police operations, current issues, conflict intervention, criminal law and investigations. Individuals completing this program are immediately ready for entry-level positions or additional training at a police academy.

Loyola University offers a bachelor of science in criminal justice degree at Chicago's College of Arts and Sciences. Loyola's program focuses on core courses, then provides students with a variety of electives to select from, preparing students for careers in criminal justice. Core courses include the justice system, criminal behavior, juvenile justice, police operations, statistics and other foundational courses. Students then have the option to take courses specifically dealing with corrections, conflict communications, gang activity, white collar crime, domestic violence, forensic science and other niche areas of the law. All students have the opportunity to participate in the Criminal Justice Organization, which sponsors educational activities for those interested in the field.

The University of Illinois, listed among U.S. News' "America's Best Colleges 2010," offers a bachelor's degree in criminal justice, based on a broad liberal arts curriculum. Students in the program take courses in criminal justice, critical thinking, quantitative thinking, research methods and criminological theory. Professors at the university are experts in criminology and all adjunct faculty work directly in criminal justice.
