The Center for International Trade Development at El Camino College provides an examination preparatory course that is 12 weeks in length and is taught by an instructor with more than 25 years of experienced as a licensed customs broker. No previous experience in the field is required. The program addresses a wide variety of applicable topics including entry requirements, valuation and classification, country of origin, NAFTA and other trade agreements, broker responsibilities and prohibited and restricted merchandise. Students take previous examinations to evaluate progress throughout the course.

The Export Academy offers a U.S. Customs Broker Examination Preparation Course to equip students with the essential knowledge necessary to pass the examination required to become a customs broker in the United States. Instructors use a variety of material throughout the course including practice exams that are derived from previous customs broker exams and fabricated customs forms for practical application. The program is two months in length and includes courses in commercial importation entry processes, customs valuation methodology, U.S. rules of origin and customs compliance. Students become familiar with the terminology used in the field and the various forms and records used on a regular basis. Individuals who obtain a minimum of 60 percent on evaluations will receive an Export Academy completion certificate.

Star USA and Cleveland Brokers Association offer the Import Regulations Tariff and Procedures training course to prepare students for the examination to obtain a Customs Broker License. The program is 17 weeks in length and is offered twice a year in April and October. Students learn about entry summary procedures and requirements, customs bonds, Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) requirements, record keeping requirements, tariff treatment of containers and holders, temporary free importations (TIBs) and more. No previous experience in the importation field is necessary and course progress is assessed through 14 assignments and two practice examinations.
