Transcripts from previous schools are one of the first things that prospective transfer students need. Official transcripts must be sent from the learning institution itself and typically list courses taken, grades, GPA and degrees awarded. Prospective transfer students should consider having high school transcripts sent as well, particularly if they plan to use certain high school courses (including Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate classes) for college credit. Students should contact the former school's registrar's office and ask that transcripts be sent to the Queens College Admissions Office.

Potential transfer students also should send Queens College any relevant test scores, including SAT and Advanced Placement (usually taken in high school, with college credit granted for high enough scores). Queens College does not automatically accept AP courses approved by another college; it follows its own evaluation system when deciding whether to count AP courses as college credit. Students should include other scores from relevant tests taken during college (such as the GMAT college-level test).
Queens College also needs to know financial information, financial status, citizenship status and other facts to ensure that students can pay for college. This includes any grant money or federal financial aid that a student is receiving. Typically, FAFSA contacts Queens College once students have registered for financial aid.
Certain Queens College programs require all students, including transfers, to take placement exams before they are accepted to ensure that they have the required level of knowledge to succeed in the program. Placement exams include the COMPASS Math Placement exam, the Music Qualifying Exam (required for music and music theory majors) and the Chemistry and Biochemistry Placement Exam. Prospective students can find more information on placement requirements for specific programs on the Queens College website.
Finally, a potential transfer student is encouraged to send a Transfer Student Admission Inquiry to the Queens College Admissions Office. This will allow the student to receive information regarding intended majors and will allow the Admissions Office to review the transfer student's history and to advise him accordingly.
