Certification programs are offered through an accredited college or university and students have the option of taking courses on campus or online. The program can span from 2 1/2 to six months.
Depending on the college or university, admission requirements may vary. But for all certification programs, prospective students must have a bachelor's degree in a health care discipline or in a relevant field, as well as experience in the health care industry.
The program may be divided into five to six courses, which will focus on areas including the basics of health care informatics, advanced issues in health care informatics, medical terminology, and health information systems analysis and design.
