Choose vocabulary words that you'd like to create sentences with and write them down, along with their definition, on a piece of paper. In order for sentences to be constructed correctly, the definition of each vocabulary word must be known.
Create sentences using the five w's rule. The five w's are who, what, when, where, and why. Make sure to insert your vocabulary word into the sentence as you diagram with the five w's.
Example:
Vocabulary word: preposterous
Executive management decided against the preposterous business proposal during yesterday's quarterly meeting at the Ponderay Business Center.
Form sentences for vocabulary words by using each word in the four sentence functions. The four sentence functions are declarative, interrogative, imperative, and exclamatory. Using vocabulary words in different functions helps solidify each word in your memory.
Example:
Vocabulary word: irredeemable
That man's actions are irredeemable. (declarative)
Isn't that old house just irredeemable? (interrogative)
Hand me that irredeemable wooden box. (imperative)
This situation is irredeemable! (exclamatory)
Use alliteration to create sentences using vocabulary words. Alliteration is the matching or repetition of consonants, or the repetition of the same letter or sound at the beginning of words following each other, or in a short interval.
Example:
Vocabulary word: haphazardly
Harley haphazardly hit Heidi hard.
