Speak with an advisor. The last thing you want to do is figure out your entire plan of study, only to go back to square one because you did not have all the necessary information. Generally speaking, students that graduate from an engineering technology program should demonstrate a solid academic career by maintaining a minimum grade point average of 2.5 (although some engineering programs require a minimum 2.75). Your engineering technology program should also consist of calculus, chemistry and physics courses.
Research information on universities to see what types of programs they offer. Some community colleges have matriculation agreements with local universities which helps to streamline your course of study.
Research information on the various engineering disciplines to see which one fits you. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, civil engineering is expected to grow faster than average. Civil engineers construct cities, whereas electrical engineers work with electrical systems and mechanical engineers design machines.
Apply to the university of your choice. Once accepted, you will need to meet with your new advisor, file for financial aid and repeat most of the administrative steps that you performed when you were admitted to your engineering technology program.
