The most common major chosen by students who wish to become pharmacists is pharmaceutical science or pre-pharmacy. These programs include the specific coursework required to apply to pharmacy school including the general sciences, upper level biology, chemistry and pharmacology.
Students may choose to major in another health-related sciences prior to applying to pharmacy school. A student interested in mental health-related pharmacy can major in psychology to gain additional education in their field of interest. Additional elective classes are required to fulfill pharmacy school prerequisites.
Students desiring to work as a pharmacist for a health organization or in a management position may major in business administration. Additional elective courses would be required prior to admission into pharmacy school.
