The Department of Criminal Justice at Tennessee State University is home to one of the largest criminal justice education programs in the U.S. Students can complete undergraduate and graduate studies leading toward a Bachelor of Science or Master of Criminal Justice degree. Students can take courses in political and social sciences, psychology, sociology and law. In addition to in-class instruction, the program includes practical learning through labs, field trips, symposiums, internships, guest speakers and other learning opportunities.
Trevecca Nazarene University offers its criminal justice program to part-time students. The program is designed for law enforcement officers who are interested in advancing their education and professional development. The 15-month program is open to students 23 years of age or older who have completed 60 semester hours of college credit and have work experience.
Nashville State Community College offers a two-year associate degree program in criminal justice. The program is designed to help students enter the work force or transfer to a four-year college or university program. The college also offers the 10-week Police Science Academy, which provides hands-on training to prospective law enforcement officers or students interested in a career in security.
The Nashville campus of the Kaplan Career Institute provides students with the opportunity to earn an associate degree in criminal justice. The program includes training in law enforcement, criminal investigation, criminal behavior, crime and loss prevention, juvenile delinquency and corporate security. All students must complete a job placement (externship) with a local criminal justice provider prior to completing the program.
Established in 1985, Remington College has various campuses across the U.S. and operates as a private, for-profit educational institution. Remington's Nashville campus offers a bachelor's and associate degree program in criminal justice. Students have the option of completing their studies through online study.
