Idaho has three state universities -- Boise State, Idaho State and the University of Idaho. Boise State is located in Boise, Idaho State is in Pocatello and the University of Idaho has its primary campus in Moscow. The University of Idaho has extension campuses and communities in cities across the state. Boise State is often recognized for its strong athletics program. The Boise State Broncos have produced several players who have gone on to play in the NFL, such as Chris Carr of the Baltimore Ravens and Pro Bowler Quintin Mikell.
There are three primary private universities within the state of Idaho, which are Christian establishments operated by three different denominations of Christian organizations. Brigham Young University is operated by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. George Fox University is an establishment that has its roots in the Quaker movement. Northwest Nazarene University is affiliated with the Nazarene church. The other private university in the state is the University of Phoenix campus located in Meridian. The University of Phoenix has small campuses in most states, as well as a massive online university.
Idaho has five state-operated colleges. The Lewis-Clark State college is the only one that doesn't include a regional identifier in its name. Lewis-Clark State is located in Lewiston. The College of Southern Idaho is found in Twin Falls. The Eastern Idaho Technical College is located in Idaho Falls. The College of Western Idaho has several campuses but is centered in Nampa. North Idaho College is found in Couer d'Alene.
Several private colleges are located in Idaho. Some of these are only found in Idaho, while others are found as part of larger institutes that have campuses within Idaho. ITT Technical Institute and Brown Mackie College, for example, both have campuses in Boise. These are large schools with facilities in several cities throughout the country. Others, like the College of Idaho or the New Saint Andrews College are privately owned and only found within Idaho.
