Child Psychologist Schools

There is a great need for child psychologists in the United States to help with the growing number of children with issues. Training to become a child psychologist requires not only psychology-related courses but also child development courses, as well. Some schools offer undergraduate degrees in this area, and others offer master's and doctorate degrees to expand your knowledge of child psychology.

    • Argosy University is located in 13 different states for a total of 19 different campuses from which to choose. The college offers a number of different psychology and behavioral health programs offering a master's or doctorate degree to students. Check argosy.edu to determine which campuses offer the degrees related to child psychology. The California campuses offer degrees in marriage and family therapy, for instance. Several other psychology degrees also can be obtained pertaining to child psychology at various different campuses.

    Adler School of Professional Psychology

    • Located in Chicago, the Adler School of Professional Psychology offers students a program track leading to a doctorate in child and adolescent psychology. Students learn how to be a psychologist and about the specialized problems that children encounter and how to handle them. Students also can simultaneously complete a master's program in this field while working to obtain the doctorate degree. Students are encouraged to participate in community service related to the field while earning their degree.

    • Post University offers students an undergraduate degree in child psychology. The Bachelor of Science in Child Studies allows students to study both the art of psychology and the development of children. The program features general education classes that all students typically take, as well as degree-specific classes, such as Teaching the Exceptional Child, Language Development in Young Children and Foundations of Early Childhood Education. Students also are required to take part in practicum situations, giving students real-world experiences.

    • Chicago, Illinois, features the Chicago School of Professional Psychology for students working toward a degree in child psychology. The Child and Adolescent Psychology concentration is a master's degree that helps students to learn to work with children. The program is a one-year program with flexibility so the degree easily can be earned while you work. Several of the courses are taken online, and other courses are held on weekends. Course include Psychology of Life Span, Trauma and Crisis Intervention and Evaluation and Treatment of the Juvenile Offender.
