Founded in 1970 as an Institute of Technology, the University of Benin currently educates over 40,000 students in various levels ranging from pre-undergraduate certificates to postgraduate work. Currently, the University of Benin offers a diploma in Chemical Engineering that can be finished with two years of part-time study under the guidance of the engineering faculty.
The Department of Chemical Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife offers a full variety of courses for students at the undergraduate and postgraduate level. The undergraduate program is a five-year course designed to prepare the student with theoretical knowledge in the basic sciences, engineering and industrially-oriented disciplines. Students are expected to work in the industry for about three months at the end of every academic session.
The School of Engineering and Engineering Technology at the Federal University of Technology, Yola provides instruction in chemical engineering for interested students. Students have access to the Federal University of Technology, Yola library, which has the capacity for 50,000 titles of books and 100 titles of journals. Currently, the library contains 30,000 volumes of books and subscribes to 56 titles of foreign journals.
Established in 1991 by the federal government of Nigeria, the University of Uyo is in the capital of Akwa Ibom State. The University of Uyo offers an undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering under the auspices of the faculty of engineering. Currently, the University of Uyo operates out of two temporary campuses and its permanent site will be approximately 4.5 kilometers from the city center.
