The City College of the City University of New York is home of The Bernard and Anne Spitzer School of Architecture. Founded in 1968, the Spitzer School is affiliated with the City College Architectural Center, where students and faculty work with professional staff to provide technical assistance and advocacy in planning and design for not-for-profit community organizations.
City College offers programs leading to Bachelor of Architecture and Master of Architecture. The master's program is offered in two streams, including a three-year program designed for students with a non-architecture undergraduate or graduate degree. The second stream is a one-year program for students holding a first professional architecture degree. The School of Architecture also offers master's programs in landscape architecture, sustainability in the urban environment, and urban design.
The School of Architecture and Planning at the University of Buffalo was established in 1967. Today, it is the only accredited school of architecture and urban planning within the State University of New York system. The school includes the Department of Architecture and the Department of Urban and Regional Planning. Students can participate in a summer Habitat for Humanity program, and design and build small structures in the city through the school's Small Built Works Studio.
The Department of Architecture offers an integrated program, with students completing a four-year Bachelor of Science followed by a professional, two-year Master of Architecture. An undergraduate minor, a three-and-a-half-year Master of Architecture for students with non-architecture degrees, and a one-and-a-half-year post-professional master's are also available. The Department of Urban and Regional Planning offers undergraduate majors and minors in environmental design, a two-year master's in urban planning, a dual master of architecture and master of urban planning program, and a dual juris doctor and master of planning degree.
