Trade Schools in the Inland Empire of California

A population explosion is forecast for the Inland Empire of California, and with new people come new job opportunities. The Inland Empire is expected to swell from 4.2 million in 2010 to 5.2 million in 2025. The area will need computer technicians, skilled construction workers, health aides and beauticians, and the Inland Empire has a variety of trade schools to prepare students for local careers.
  1. Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning

    • San Bernardino Valley College offers certificate programs for heating, ventilation and air conditioning workers. In addition to learning about commercial HVAC installation, welding and electrical hookups, you can take general education classes to earn an associate degree. Riverside City College’s refrigeration and air conditioning program covers the proper tools, pipes and welding techniques to enter this career. The program covers environmental laws governing the recovery and recycling of refrigerants. As with San Bernardino, you can proceed on for an associate degree by adding general education courses.

    Health Care

    • Concorde Career College of San Bernardino offers a handful of health care industry certificate programs, including dental assistant, medical assistant, surgical technician and vocational nurse. The school offers associate degrees in dental hygiene and respiratory therapy. You can complete some programs and be working in as few as nine months. Platt College has Inland Empire campuses in Riverside and Ontario. At Riverside, you can study to become a veterinary technician, medical assistant, medical administrator or a diagnostic medical sonography worker. You can study respiratory therapy at the Ontario campus.

    Computer Technician

    • At ITT Technical Institute of San Bernardino, you can specialize in cybersecurity, software development or network systems. New in 2014, the school’s health information technology program will teach you how to collect, assemble and report health care data in conformance with legal and medical industry practices. With campuses in Riverside and Ontario, UEI College can prepare you to become a computer technician. With the certificate, you can seek employment as a help desk support worker, computer field technician, computer salesperson or network systems technician. You can complete the program in as few as eight months.

    Beauty

    • The Moreno Valley campus of Marinello Schools of Beauty offers instruction in cosmetology, manicuring and makeup. The program is accredited by the National Accrediting Commission of Career Arts and Sciences. The program covers skills needed to manage a salon and pass the state cosmetology board examination. San Bernardino Beauty School offers instruction in barbering, cosmetology, manicuring, massage therapy and skin care. The barbering program takes 1,500 hours to complete, the manicure program takes 400 hours, and the cosmetology program takes 1,600 hours. As a cosmetologist you’ll learn how to cut and color clients’ hair, give permanent waves and apply facial treatments.
