Legal Secretarial Courses

The primary task of a legal secretary is to provide administrative support to legal professionals. There is no specific route to becoming a legal secretary. Many colleges and private organizations do offer certificates and other courses designed to empower legal secretaries with the skills needed to excel in their careers.
  1. Basic Legal Training Course

    • NALS, an association that provides training courses and certifications as well as career networking support to the entire legal community, provides the basic legal training course. This course is suitable for people who do not have a background in law. It provides basic information on legal affairs and procedures. The course is also useful in preparing students for NALS and other certifications.     Advanced Legal Training Course

    • This is an extension to NALS Basic Legal Training Course and is intended for individuals with some basic knowledge of legal matters. Legal secretaries looking to increase their professional outlook and knowledge are suitable candidates for this program.     Online Legal Training Course

    • NALS -- Stetson Online Legal Training Course is offered by Stetson University in collaboration with NALS. It is a 20-week training program that covers all aspects of legal matters and procedural law. It is also useful in preparing for NALS certification exams. To promote distant learning, Stetson University offers its online Blackboard Learning Management System for students taking on this course. The course is based on content adopted from NALS' "Basic Manual for Lawyer's Assistant."

    NALS' Certification Training Courses

    • NALS offers certification exams for becoming accredited legal secretaries, including ALS (Accredited Legal Secretary), PLS (Professional Legal Secretary) and PP (Professional Paralegal). To prepare students for these exams, NALS has partnered with different institutions across the country, including the Lawyer's Assistant School of Dallas, Metro Technology Centers, and Renton Technical College, Washington.
