How to Weld Power Cable Connectors

Power cables, which consist of assemblies of two or more electrical conductors, are used within buildings, in overhead wiring and in underground lighting, to transmit power. As well, power cables are used in flexible wiring applications, for portable tools and machinery. Power cables can either be attached to a device or be detachable; if it's detachable, you must add a connector at the end, which can connect to an inlet on the device. If you want to attach your cable and connector more permanently, weld them together.

  • Pliers
  • Crimping tool
  • Soldering gun
  • Solder
  • Electrical tape

Instructions

      Connect the end of your power cable to the power cable connector, per manufacturer's instructions. Use pliers to twist and turn the connection, thus tightening it. Further tighten the connection with a crimping tool.

      Turn on the soldering gun. Use the soldering gun to warm up the solder by lightly tapping the solder with the soldering gun, causing it to melt. Allow solder to drip all over the connection.

      Wrap electrical tape around the connection, insulating it.
