Colleges With Engineering Certificates

Certificates in engineering are for engineering majors who want to study a specific aspect of engineering without adding another major. The amount of credits required for an engineering certificate may vary between schools, but most schools require between 13 and 24 credits of study for an engineering certificate. Many certificate programs contain graduate-level courses and are for students who already have a bachelor's degree in engineering.
  1. Certificate in Engineering Design

    • Design in engineering encompasses more than aesthetics. It is about making a idea functional. Certificates in Engineering Design help prepare students make the transition between idea concepts and actual physical models. Students pursuing an engineering design certificate will take courses in Computer Aided Design, Quality Improvement by Experimental Design and Principles of Human Centered Design, among others. Penn State University and Northwestern University both have engineering programs that offer certificates in Engineering Design.

    Systems Engineering Certificate

    • Certificates in Systems Engineering are for graduate students who want additional knowledge of how to use technologies and programs within engineering. The program will prepare engineering students for managerial positions within engineering projects. Students in Systems Engineering certificate programs will take courses in Leading Systems Engineering Teams, Fundamentals of Modern Systems Engineering and Systems Design and Analysis, among others. Georgia Tech, Colorado State and the University of Illinois are universities that offer certificates in Systems Engineering.

    Plastics Engineering Certificate

    • Certificates in Plastics Engineering are for students who are interested in incorporating plastics into engineering. Plastics Engineering certificate programs place a strong emphasis on the design and production phase of plastics materials. Some Plastics Engineering certificates can be completed on line. Plastics Engineering students will complete courses in Polymer Chemistry Basics, Elastomers and Plastics Tooling, among others. Cal Poly and the University of Massachusetts are two universities that offer certificates in Plastics Engineering.

    Biochemical Engineering Certificate

    • Certificates in Biochemical Engineering are for students who have a Bachelor of Science in Engineering and are interested in creating biological organisms and molecules. Students enrolled in Biochemical Engineering certificate programs will take courses in Biopharm Facility Design, Biotransport and Fluid Dynamics, among others. Villanova University and Lawrence Tech University are two universities that offer certificates in Biochemical Engineering.
