Consider yourself and your interests. What are you interested in doing for the rest of your life? Do you have any hobbies which could be turned into a career? If you have no concrete answers to these questions, but are eager to begin college, a liberal studies major may be right for you. The classes may transfer to a specific major and the time in school will help you make important life decisions.
Decide how much time you have for school. Do you want to be done with college in a certain amount of years? Do you have other commitments, such as a family or a job? The amount of time you have to commit to school and the number of years you plan on attending school will affect the decision to major in liberal studies. Liberal studies will cover general areas of knowledge as opposed to specifics to a career, so those with limited time may not want to choose this area of study.
Plan a college career path and consider funds. If funds are an issue, majoring in liberal studies at a community college will cover the same general classes for less than a four-year university. In the college career plan, decide which universities you may like to attend and check to see if they accept transferred credits from a community college. If they do, it would be less expensive to major in liberal studies at a community college then move on to a larger university for specific classes.
