How to Care for Sand Boas

Sand boas hail from Europe, Asia and Africa, and can live in spacious terrariums around your home. They make colorful companions for 20 to 35 years, if cared for properly. While these pets are fairly high-maintenance and expensive to care for, they truly are fascinating and beautiful creatures. Care for your sand boa properly to avoid potential risks that might harm your snake.

Instructions

    • 1

Create an environment for your sand boa. Place one end of the terrarium over a heating pad that will keep that area at 90 degrees. Check the bottom of the terrarium with a thermometer to ensure that heat distributes in a gradient over the bottom of the terrarium. The other end of the terrarium should be about 78 degrees.

    • 2

Give snakes a soft substrate in which to burrow. Spread paper shavings or Aspen shavings in the bottom of the terrarium.

    • 3

Provide your sand boa with a water bowl. Change the water daily.

    • 4

Feed your adult boas every two weeks with thawed rodents, served at room temperature. Some boas might insist on live food.
