Ridiculous Things to Put in Your Dorm

College dorms -- especially older ones -- are often boring and dull. From the cement block walls to the outdated desks and beds, there's not much in the average dorm room that lives up to the excitement of the college experience. That's why many students opt to personalize their dorm rooms with posters, carpeting, sports memorabilia and more. But if you really want to create a dorm room that stands out and gives visitors something to remember, consider putting something truly ridiculous in your room.
  1. Hire a Butler

    • If you have the money, there's nothing that says class and sophistication like a butler. And that's just what you need if you really want the most unforgettable dorm room on campus. Your friends won't believe it when a knock on your door is answered by a well-heeled, professional butler. A butler can also serve food and drinks to your guests, help clean your room, and even run errands and take care of day-to-day affairs.

    Install a Projector and Screen

    • Of course you could take a small 19" TV to college with you, but nothing says big man on campus like a 135" projection screen. Sure, the 96" x 96" size will probably take up a whole wall, it'll be worth it when the entire floor wants to cram into your room for the big game or latest Hollywood blockbuster. You can up the ante by bringing in a commercial popcorn maker and refrigerated drink case.

Turn your Room into a Haunted House

    • Who says Halloween only comes once a year? Turn your room into a year-round house of mystery by replacing the regular light bulbs with black lights, spreading fake spider webs in all of the corners, and setting up a full-size replica skeleton in the corner. Complete the effect by playing spooky sounds on the stereo at all hours and wearing a wolfman mask whenever you're in the room.

    Build a Rube Goldberg Machine

    • If you really want to get ridiculous, just build a massive contraption that completes a simple task like opening the fridge or turns on the TV. You won't be able to walk to your closet without knocking part of it over, and getting more than two people in the room at one time will be impossible, but your friends and admirers will watch in awe from the doorway every time you press the button that makes the machine start.
