Request more information from the Office on Violence Against Women about the Campus Grant program by phone or mail. Ask any questions you may have about the grant that are not already answered on its website.
Meet with campus representatives who would have a stake in the grant, including relevant academic programs, campus safety, student housing, relevant student groups, Greek life, athletics, student government, the campus judiciary board, resource development and the president's office. Secure buy-ins and support from these stakeholders to help with the grant proposal.
Contact and secure buy-ins and support from at least one local nonprofit victim-advocacy organization and at least one community criminal-justice or civil-law agency, as per Campus Program requirements.
Compile statistics, curriculum, testimony and any other data that will prove your university's need for the grant and capacity to implement it. You may need to create a team of people to compile data and write the grant proposal together.
Write a compelling and complete grant proposal, per the requirements of the grant, that includes a coordinated campus-wide effort to address domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault and stalking. Include detailed training curriculum for students, staff and administrators. Include a detailed budget, implementation plan, measurable objectives, methods and evaluation plan. Make sure the proposal meets all requirements of and addresses the priorities of the grant.
Review and edit the grant proposal. Even the tiniest mistake may eliminate you from the pool of applicants. Triple check that the grant proposal meets all requirements and addresses the priorities of the grant.
Submit the grant proposal by the deadline to the Office on Violence Against Women of the U.S. Department of Justice. Send a copy to your grant administrator in the resource development department, per your university's protocol.
