How to Write a Master's Proposal

Writing a master's thesis proposal is a necessary step before you can attain your Master's degree. The proposal allows your instructor to get an idea about whether your topic warrants a paper or whether you should propose a new one. You should be confident that your proposal will be approved before writing it because you will need to do considerable research and spend an inordinate amount of time to prepare and write your thesis proposal and to finalize your thesis.

Instructions

    • 1

Write the words "Master's Thesis Proposal" at the top of the page. Leave a space between that heading and your family name, followed underneath by your first name, followed underneath by your passport number (ask your professor whether this portion is necessary for your assignment) and then write your email address underneath that.

    • 2

Write the date on the opposite side of your student information. Leave a space above it for your signature.

    • 3

Leave a space below your email address and then write "Information," in slightly larger lettering, about 14-point font. Under that, write "Title" in bold letters, returning to your original font, which should be 12-point font. Follow it with a colon.

    • 4

Return to regular lettering and then write the title. Write "Description" under the title and start with your question, problem or hypothesis.

    • 5

Describe in the second paragraph the most relevant information about your title. You want your reader to understand what the paper will be about. Provide a shocking statistic if you have one, followed by an attribution to get your reader's attention.

    • 6

Discuss your research methodology or approach. In the last paragraph, describe the possible outcomes of your research and state why they are important. Sign your proposal.
