Fayetteville State University offers two programs: a RN to BSN nursing degree, and a general bachelor's degree in nursing. The RN to BSN is designed for Registered Nurses only seeking a Bachelors of Science degree in Nursing. The nursing curriculum required for completion of this degree includes thirty-two credit hours of general education requirements, and eight credit hours to be divided between physical and health education, developmental psychology, transcultural nursing, gerontological nursing, and loss and grief counseling, among other things.
Fayetteville State University offers a general bachelor's in nursing for students who are not yet registered nurses. This degree program is similar to the RN to BSN track, with the exception of pre-nursing curriculum. This pre-nursing curriculum includes courses in anatomy and physiology, pharmacological concepts, adult health, obstetrics, pediatrics, nursing leadership and community health. The bachelor's degree program also requires students to participate in various clinical labs.
The university of North Carolina at Pembroke, near Fayetteville, offers a nursing degree program for current registered nurses seeking a bachelor's degree in nursing. Admission requirements include an associate's degree or equivalent in nursing, a North Carolina nursing license and a cumulative GPA of 2.8 in all post high school work. An array of general education courses are required for this degree, including anatomy and physiology, microbiology, statistics and introduction to nursing. Nursing major requirements are much more extensive, including many advanced science and patient care courses.
Fayetteville Technical Community College offers an associate's degree in nursing. This degree consists of two years of full-time study including summer semesters. Courses introduce a student to basic nursing practices, the foundations of healthcare and holistic medicine. General education requirements include writing composition, general psychology, developmental psychology, computer basics, public speaking, mathematics courses. Once accepted, nursing students can expect to take a range of courses in anatomy and physiology, health illness concepts, and holistic health concepts, among many others.
