The study of physiology is the study of how tissues, cells and organisms work. It is a natural complement to biology. Physiologists may study how memory works, how bodies adapt to stress or what causes heart attacks. Most people who work at zoos have a degree in biology or a related field. Although a bachelor's degree is not enough to become a staff biologist, you can find work as a zoo keeper, helping care for and maintain animals and their enclosures. You also can apply to work in parks, aquariums or other places that have wildlife that needs to be studied and cared for. To do this kind of work, you should enjoy working with animals and be willing to work outside in different kinds of weather.
High school science teachers are always in high demand. Having a degree in biology will qualify you to teach others about the subjects that interest you. If you enjoy working with young people you may find this a rewarding career that has a great deal of job security. You also may be able to find work with governmental or environmental organizations, creating educational material for the public on wildlife, conservation and more.
Entry level work at laboratories is available to those with bachelor's degrees. Higher job positions are reserved for people with more advanced degrees, but if you want to find a foothold in the world of research, you can do so as a lab assistant or technician. You will be able to observe up close the work being done by professional researchers and to assist in the discovery of new knowledge.
