One of the most obvious reasons for achieving and maintaining good grades in college is future employment opportunities. Many employers will look at a recent graduate's grade-point average before deciding whether or not he will be called in for an interview. Students should remember, however, that employers will look at the overall picture as well. It is beneficial to have not only good grades, but also several extracurricular activities listed on a resume as well.
If a student wishes to pursue graduate school or a professional school, good grades are extremely important. A student studying to be a doctor, lawyer or dentist, or who wishes to earn a higher degree, will have to have a certain grade-point average to be accepted to specific schools. The better the graduate school, the higher the GPA threshold will be. Students who have developed good study habits and a strong work ethic will have a higher chance of success in graduate school as well.
Another important reason for a student to get good grades in college is that she may be able to use them to get a few references for her resume. If a student does particularly well in a class and works closely with the professor, the professor might be willing to be listed as a reference. In addition, a professor might also be willing to write a letter of recommendation to an employer about a student who was successful in his class.
In order to achieve good grades while in college, a student has to be organized and attend classes on a regular basis. This is an added benefit of getting good grades, because the student will develop the skills necessary to be successful in either the workplace or graduate school. Students with good grades are more likely to have a good work ethic and work toward positive goals.
