Request the application for transferability from the Department of Defense. This application requests that the military allow a spouse to use a service member's GI Bill for education.
Complete the VA-Form 22-1990e. This form requests contact information for the person applying for benefits, direct deposit location, benefit type, relation to service member and school and employment information. You must also include the service member's information.
Mail the completed form to the regional office that serves the school you are attending if you have chosen a school or, if you are unsure where you will be attending, mail the form to the regional office for the state in which you live. The list of addresses and applicable states is found on the VA-Form 22-1990e.
Contact the school which you have applied to let the veteran's certifying official know you have requested military benefits to pay for your schooling.
Ask the veteran's certifying official to send you VA-Form 22-1999, Enrollment Certification. This form is controlled and can only be obtained from the school.
Complete VA-Form 22-1999 and mail it back to the veteran's certifying official at your school.
