The most common source of scholarships for high schoolers looking to play baseball in college is the money designated to individual universities by the NCAA to partially fund scholarships. This is the blanket organization that controls and organizes all collegiate sports. University coaches send scouts to evaluate whether or not they would like to recruit certain high school players. The NCAA allows universities to devote a certain amount of funding for scholarships for a given sport. The NCAA pays part of the tab, but the scholarships are awarded and administered directly by the schools. This money is the best source of scholarships for interested baseball players; however, it is highly unlikely that a player will receive a full scholarship. Coaches are often given the money for only about 10 full scholarships, but have the option of splitting the money they are provided between more than 10 players. The amount of scholarship money awarded to high school seniors depends on the terms of the contract signed between the player, the school and the NCAA.

The National Amateur Baseball Federation is able to award scholarships to students enrolled in accredited colleges and universities through an endowed scholarship fund. College students are only eligible to apply if they are affiliated with a franchise in an NABF league. Applicants must be nominated by a coach or professor, and are evaluated based on need, grades and application form. In 2009, five $1,000 scholarships were awarded, but the number of scholarships can vary from year to year based on available funds.
