Click "Customer support" at the top of the page. Under the heading "Telephone," obtain the company's toll-free number. Agents are available Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, and Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.
Call the toll free number and speak to an agent. Provide your account number and explain why you are disputing the late charge. Provide supporting evidence, such as a canceled check.
Send a fax to the number listed on the company's contact page. Click "coversheet" under the fax heading to create a preprinted fax cover page, which has your name, address, contact information and account number. Write a short letter explaining why you are disputing the late charge. Attach your supporting evidence and send the fax.

Include a copy of supporting documents that bolster your dispute. Send the letter through the U.S. Postal Service and request delivery confirmation to ensure that Sallie Mae receives your correspondence.
Send an email to dispute the late fee by clicking "Email us" on the contact page, which takes you to a preformatted page with your account number. Enter your email address.
Choose "Billing questions" in the pull-down menu under the heading, "I have a question about," then click "My question is not in this list." Click "Submit." Select "Questions about my bill" under the subject pull-down menu and provide details about your late fee dispute in the message box. Click "Submit" to send the email.
