* Index cards: Each book has its own card, typically 3x5 inches.
* Separate entries: The card has two distinct sections:
* Author: Lists the author's last name, followed by their first name and middle initial (if applicable).
* Title: Lists the book's title, usually in all capital letters.
* Cross-referencing: Some card catalogs might have additional cards for the book, like a subject card or a title card, to make it easier to find books by different search criteria.
While card catalogs were a popular way to organize libraries in the past, they are now largely replaced by online catalogs and databases.
