How to Put on a Fire Suit

When any fire and rescue team heads out to a structural (building) fire, the protective clothing worn, or fire suit, is of the utmost importance. The triple-layer turnout gear includes protective clothing, inner garment, outer head protection, communication device and respiratory equipment. Personal protective equipment has evolved over the years to accommodate the variety of hazardous conditions firefighters face. Initial firefighting skills taught at the state approved fire academy often change when the equipment changes. Follow standard operating policies, guidelines and procedures of your fire department. Fire suits are to National Fire Protection Association specifications.
