Obtain an IQ test. Official IQ tests have to be given in person by a licensed proctor to ensure that there are no outside materials being used by the test taker. Nonofficial tests can be taken online through various sites that offer IQ testing. Mensa, a society of people whose IQs range in the top 2 percent of the population, offers a version of an IQ test called the Mensa Workout (see Resources). Other websites that offer IQ testing are IQtest.com and Free-IQtest.net (see Resources).
Take the test. Depending on what test you select will dictate how long the test will take. Some tests take thirty minutes to answer thirty question and some take up to two hours with up to 14 sections. Whatever version you are taking, make sure that you're in an area that is comfortable to you, and are relaxed and alert. You want the best version of "you" in the results. (Reference 2)
Receive your score. The average for IQ tests is 100, with a standard deviation of fifteen. This means that a normal score is a 100, give or take 15 points.
Assess your score. Various classification systems are in place. Nevertheless, the Terman's scale has classified genius scores as an IQ of 140 and above, very superior intelligence at 120-140, superior intelligence at 110-120, and down to mental retardation with a score below 70.
