Prepare yourself for the exam. It is required by each state board of accounting that a prospective CPA must complete an accounting program at a college or university. Completing an accounting program is only part of the CPA career path experience.
Take the Uniform CPA exam. The test is a way to ensure only qualified people become licensed Certified Public Accountants. When accountants deal with other people's money, the licensing process is one tool the state uses to insure the public interest is protected. Each exam focuses on only one of the three E's: education, examination and experience. Each student must pass each E in order to advance to the next level of becoming a CPA.
Check your mailbox. The National Association of State Boards of Accountancy mails all CPA exam scores via U.S. Mail. Make sure the NASBA has your correct mailing address. Go to the American Institute of CPA's website to find out the passing test score. The AICPA board of examiners finalizes the passing test scores. Once the passing score is determined it will be posted on the AICPA website.
