Come well-rested to the examination. The AIMS is not a typical standardized test that you need to do preparation to pass; instead, the test is based on your natural aptitude. Therefore, come to the examination after having a good night's sleep so that you are in the proper frame of mind to do your best on the exam and to feel positive about the overall testing experience.
Eat breakfast prior to each testing day. Testing on an empty stomach can negatively affect your performance; come to the test after having a healthy breakfast. You will be more positive about your ability and will enjoy your surroundings when testing on a full stomach.
Exhibit a positive attitude by smiling and being friendly with test administrators and fellow testers. The AIMS has two types of testing environments--a computer-administered test and a battery of tests administered by a live person. Approach both with a smile and a sense of humor to keep the testing experience fun.
Promise yourself a specific incentive for completing the AIMS test. Give yourself a reward for finishing the test--for example, you can promise yourself a day at the spa or a new video game if you complete all of the tests. This will give you something to look forward to as you labor through the hours of testing.
Relax and recharge during the breaks. The AIMS test has several breaks during the examination during which you should eat healthy snacks, relax or take a walk, not discussing the test or thinking about what you may have misunderstood during the previous parts of the exam. If you do interact with other test takers, smile and be positive, but don't discuss the examination.
