The only form of identification needed to take the GED test anywhere in the U.S. or Canada is a government issued identification. The forms of identification accepted are a state issued driver's license or photo identification, United States Armed Forces identification, a current United States passport, certificate of United States citizenship, certificate of naturalization, current foreign passport, alien registration card with photograph, and court approved identification. A Social Security card is not needed on the day of the test.
As of May 2011 GED testing cost a minimum of $75 to be paid before testing can begin, although actual costs vary by state. There is a $15 charge for each test retaken. The GED testing process is made up of five separate tests. The tests are language arts/writing, social studies, science, language arts/reading, and mathematics. To pass your GED tests, you need to receive a score of at least 410 on each individual test and an average of 450 on all five tests.

The best place to register for the GED test is by going to The American Council On Education website. Look up the list of testing locations and choose the one closest to you. They will provide the information for the testing center and you will be responsible for contacting that center and setting up your testing date.
