Determine the percentage of AYP indicators met by your school or the school's performance index score. These scores are based on the standardized test scores for your school and are determined by the state department. AYP uses the highest of these two indicators.
Compare the score from step one to the AYP requirements for your state. The AYP score requirements should be available to your school district from the state department. The combination of your percentage of indicators met or performance score rating, along with whether or not the school met AYP score requirements for the state, determines your school's primary designation as Excellent, Effective, Continuous Improvement, Academic Watch, or Academic Emergency.
Add your school's state-determined value-added measure to its primary designation to determine the AYP final designation score. The value-added measure will be one of two statements based on the state's assessment of your school's progress in the current and previous school years based on test scores: above expected growth for at least two consecutive years or below expected growth for at least three consecutive years. Depending on this evaluation, combined with your preliminary designation, your school will be awarded a final AYP designation of Excellent with Distinction, Effective, Excellent, Continuous Improvement, Academic Watch, or Academic Emergency.
