Are Gcse equivalent to standard grades?

GCSEs (General Certificates of Secondary Education) are roughly equivalent to Standard Grades in Scotland, but not directly comparable. While both are qualifications awarded at the end of secondary school, the grading systems and specific subject content differ. A direct numerical or letter grade equivalence isn't consistently defined. Instead, universities and other institutions will have their own internal methods for assessing the equivalent level of achievement between GCSEs and Standard Grades (which were replaced by National 5s).
