What does IP mean for a college grade?

IP stands for "In progress." It is a temporary grade indicating that the student has completed some of the coursework but not all. An IP may be given when a student is behind in their coursework due to extenuating circumstances, such as illness or a family emergency. The IP will typically be replaced by a final grade once the student has completed the remaining coursework.
